That gut feeling…

Maybe this will shine some light on a few issues for you or a loved one. Have you ever had a “gut feeling?” It is more then just a saying. The gut/ brain connection is real. It is not just a “feeling” you have. There is actual scientific study on the matter. Your gut produces more serotonin—known to have beneficial influence on your mood—than your brain does. So your gut, studies are proving, serves as your second brain. The gut is home to countless bacteria, both good and bad. These bacteria outnumber the cells in your body by at least 10 to one. If you maintain an ideal balance of good and bad bacteria, you will form the foundation for good mental, emotional and physical health.

This is HUGE when it comes to children. Think how many times in your life as a child or your own children’s lives antibiotics were prescribed. Not to mention the antibiotics injected into to factory farmed meats that you and your family have consumed. This is why pre and pro-biotic are so important in the diet for everyone. Not only do you need to heal the gut but the mind as well.

Pre-biotics can be found in food. These foods are very easy to find. Look for Organic, Non-GMO foods.

  • brown rice
  • whole grain wheat
  • brown pasta
  • kiwifruit
  • banana
  • asparagus
  • raw onion
  • artichoke
  • leeks

Additionally, Pro-biotics are found in fermented foods. Good Sources of Probiotics:

  • Yogurt
  • Kombucha
  • Water Kefir
  • Fermented & Cultured Vegetables
  • Probiotic Supplements

From the book “The Second Brain” written by Michael Gershon- “In autopsies on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s patients they find tissue damage, lesions in the brain tissue that are indicative of either Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Obviously, we have always accepted those conditions as being neurological brain injury diseases. However, in those same patients, if they continue to dissect the gut tissue, and they get to the neurological tissue of the second brain and the enteric nervous system — the gut brain — they find lesions in the gut identical to what they see in the brain.” There are further studies being done about the second brain, Autism and MS.

This is not a new message. You can enjoy life while taking care of the body and mind. Anything above can be made in a blink of an eye and used in simple dishes that are enjoyable to all palates.
